Travel program available for quality, affordable care outside of Maine

Members in Maine can now be reimbursed for travel expenses for select, covered health services that can be performed by in-network providers in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, or Connecticut. The Maine Travel Assistance Program helps members with the cost of travel and travel arrangements, to make access to care outside of Maine easier to schedule. This also includes travel for a second opinion for program-eligible services. In many cases, this can result in an earlier appointment and quality care at a lower cost.

Our partner, Healthbase, makes the travel arrangements and reimburses the member, improving access to affordable care outside of Maine. Share this flyer with your clients and their employees to provide more information about the program.

For a group plan member, Healthbase will provide a spreadsheet that will be passed on to the employer so that the employer can report any taxable income to the employee. Individual subscribers will receive a W-9 tax form and may receive a 1099 tax form.

This new program is automatically included in Individual, group Fully Insured, and Anthem Balanced Funding (ABF) plans. It is an opt-in for Administrative Service Only (ASO) plans. This program does not impact how a member’s plan works or how in-network or out-of-network benefits apply, as it is specific to travel services only.
