The Kentucky Health Insurance Marketplace, kynect.ky.gov, will provide a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for anyone who could not enroll in a qualified health plan due to the recent tornado outbreak or Kynect system errors that it caused. Those individuals have until December 31, 2021, to select a plan with a January 1, 2022, effective date.

To obtain a January 1 effective date for plans that are not on the exchange, applicants must submit paper applications. They should select “other” as the SEP and write “Severe Weather” in Appendix A. otherwise the effective date will be February 1, 2022. Online applications for plans that are off the exchange will also have February 1, 2022, effective dates.
